Job Summary:

This position creates and modifies detailed drawings using CAD and NDS hardware and software from sketches, layouts or notes provided by field engineering. Contributes design modifications to facilitate manufacturing operation or quality of product. Checks drawing plots versus the project input for correctness and conformance to standards. Works with engineers regarding model accuracy, design, and industry standard drafting. May work with system management including file maintenance, backup and storage.

Essential Function:

  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, GIS and layering, fundamental knowledge of Outside Plant, running line, conduit and cable design for copper, fiber optics, manholes, hand holes, and poles (aerial and underground).
  • Assist in the planning, analysis, and recommendations in support of new construction of outside plant network structures and facilities.
  • A thorough understanding/ experience in the Outside Plant telecom industry, public right-of-way, private easements, existing utilities such as water, sewer, electric, gas, and other underground and aerial utilities.
  • Knowledgeable in city, county, state and local municipalities encroachment permits, Traffic Control and specialty permits (e.g., UPRR, Caltrans, etc.), easement right away and various environmental permits are highly desired.
  • Must be able to interact with the local municipalities, Telco engineers and construction/maintenance forces to acquire OSP Records, ICGS, Assessor Maps, map info, AIS and Construction Prints.
  • Site surveys, translating field notes to develop and update conduit/ cable engineering design drawings in AutoCAD.
  • NDS and AutoCAD experience preferred
  • Experience with GPON and Corning Flexnap products is a plus.

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • Associates or Bachelor’s degree or relevant work experience
  • Up to 2 years of related experience
  • Telecom Experience strongly preferred. 

Recommended Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Proficient in MS Office; including Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Outlook
  • Experience reading blueprints, conduit prints, and floor plans.
  • Experience reading and creating permit drawings and applications.
  • Must have excellent interpersonal skills and communication skills for interfacing with different work groups internally or externally.
  • Be able to multi-task in a fast-pacedenvironment.
  • Must be self-motivated and self-starter.
  • Looking for someone with experience in Microsoft Office including Excel, Word, and Power Point
  • Advanced AutoCAD, NDS experience a plus
  • Lumenexperience preferred.

Certificates, Licenses, Registration, and Physical Requirements:

  • Sitting for extended periods of time while viewing a computer monitor and performing various desk work.
  • Dexterity of hands and reaching to operate keyboard/calculator and file documents.
  • Occasional lifting and carrying of up to 25 lbs.
  • Vision requires eyesight sufficiently strong enough to permit extended close work and normal color perception.
  • Hearing and speaking to exchange information.

Other Job Requirements:

  • Ability to write, hear, understand, and respond appropriately to verbal requests made in person and over the telephone in English
  • Ability to travel between job sites and material depots
  • Occasional overnight travel may be required
  • Must be willing to work days/nights/weekends and be on-call depending on project demands
