Job Summary:
The OSP Engineer Field Supervisor is responsible for all aspects of outside plant design services, training, and supervision of others in support of telecom companies. The OSP Engineer Field Supervisor will need to have an advanced understanding of outside plant circuit design, transmission and distribution procedures, cable placement and splicing practices and cable protection, as well as apply general telecommunication industry standards/practices, and government codes and regulations.
Essential Function:
- This role will require the ability to travel up to 75% of the time
- Responsible for field engineering as well as training of less experienced field engineers
- Responsible for supplying status reports to management on a daily and/or weekly basis
- Responsible for assigning work to field engineers, ensuring the engineer understands the scope of the job and can perform the work safely and competently in a timely fashion
- Conducts daily check-ins with field engineers to ensure the projects are on track
- Responsible for designing and developing outside plant equipment installation, modifications, and upgrades using industry standard construction methods in aerial, underground, and buried environments.
- Supports designs of line setup and staking specifications, and cable and line extensions.
- Assist in the planning, analysis, and recommendations in support of new construction of outside plant network structures and facilities.
- Supports and assists with State, Local and Federal permit preparation.
- Assists in obtaining right-of-way use approval.
- Responsible for acquiring field data.
- Assists with as-built changes and updates to drawings.
- Takes measurements, determines Right of Way (ROW)
- Creates field notes by hand and/or through digital applications
- Identify obstructions which may impede construction
- Field verifies addresses
- Experience with CenturyLink/Lumen is required for this position
Minimum Job Requirements:
- High School diploma or equivalent
- 3+ years related experience
- 1+ years’ experience with CenturyLink/Lumen
- Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions
- Ability to use laptop/mobile devices to obtain and manipulate data
- Solid knowledge of MS Office suite programs
Recommended Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of CAD and/or OCALC, SpidaCalc, Pole Foreman, etc. a plus
- Some college preferred
- Strong technical knowledge and skills
- Ability learn and operate customer based proprietary software and other computer systems to expedite and facilitate the work order process.
- Experience with CenturyLink/Lumen systems
- Knowledge of construction and planning procedures
- Ability to read and comprehend engineering schematics
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Basic financial skills to assist in making sound business decisions.
- Applies acquired job skills and company policies and procedures to complete assigned tasks.
Certificates, Licenses, Registration, and Physical Requirements:
- Sitting for extended periods of time while viewing a computer monitor and performing various desk work.
- Dexterity of hands and reaching to operate keyboard/calculator and file documents.
- Occasional lifting and carrying of up to 25 lbs.
- Vision requires eyesight sufficiently strong enough to permit extended close work and normal color perception.
- Hearing and speaking to exchange information.
Other Job Requirements:
- Ability to write, hear, understand, and respond appropriately to verbal requests made in person and over the telephone in English
- Ability to travel between job sites and material depots
- Occasional overnight travel may be required
- Must be willing to work days/nights/weekends and be on-call depending on project demands
